Event Recap: Generation Green: Celebrating a New Generation of Builders
Generation Green: Celebrating a New Generation of Builders was held Saturday April 28, 2012 at the N.C. Museum of Natural Sciences in downtown Raleigh. Our next generation of green builders had project models and information on display featuring the work of student teams from the Triangle USGBC Natural Design Competition and Environmental Stewardship Competition. Winners from both competitions were announced at an awards ceremony at 4:30 pm.

Natural Talent Design Competition
The competition provided an applied learning experience in the principles of integrated design, sustainability, innovation and social consciousness, all components of LEED® Green Building Rating System™. Teams addressed sustainability, green building and community engagement issues through the program's partner client, the Boys and Girls Clubs of Wake County.
Twelve design teams from seven North Carolina community colleges and universities participated in this year's competition. Triangle USGBC announced state-wide awards and a stipend for the winning team to support travel and registration to Green Build 2012, USGBC's Annual Green Building Conference and Expo to be held in San Francisco in November.

Environmental Stewardship Competition
The NC Triangle Chapter Green Schools Committee hosted the Environmental Stewardship Competition at four Wake County Middle Schools: Holly Grove, Wake Forest Rolesville, Davis Drive, and Moore Square.
Student groups improved energy and water-use efficiency, recycling, and indoor air quality at their schools. Each school had a Triangle Chapter Sponsor who helped the group plan and connected them to various resources and references. With the generous support of the Atkins Foundation, prizes totaling $4,000 was awarded to the schools at the end of the competition based on implementation and improvement.
Congratulations to all four schools for their enthusiasm and acheivements in promote environmental awareness and energy savings. Holly Grove Middle School was ranked the Best Overall Participant in the competition.
