The 2010 Natural Talent Design Competition challenges participants to create an affordable, accessible, LEED Platinum level home, in the devastated Broadmoor neighborhood of New Orleans. The local winners will be sent to Greenbuild, in November, where 4 national winners will be selected, and their designs constructed. Once the measurement and verification phase has been completed, the winners of the final grand prize will be determined based on their building's performance.
The second annual Redress Raleigh highlighted innovative concepts from local designers whose collections consider the human impact of fashion on our environment. Fifteen designers participated in this year's event, displaying their collections featuring designs created using organic dyes and fabrics, unused scraps from fabric and home furnishing stores, or deconstruction of existing clothing.
Redress Raleigh 2010 was co-produced by MorLove, Revamp, and USGBC NC Triangle Emerging Professionals. Revamp is a line of reconstructed vintage clothing by Durham designer Jamie Powell focused on creating classic wardrobe staples that incorporate vintage eco-friendly materials and production processes. MorLove is a local nonprofit organization that supports children in poverty with little means to lead an enriched life. Current projects include helping support a home for abandoned babies and young children in Uganda, a school in Madagascar, and local programs in the Raleigh, North Carolina area.
