Redress Raleigh Recap

The second annual Redress Raleigh highlighted innovative concepts from local designers whose collections consider the human impact of fashion on our environment. Through the use of organic dyes and fabrics, unused scraps from fabric and home furnishing stores, or deconstruction of existing clothing, fifteen designers unveiled their interpretations of reinventing the fashion world at 7 pm on April 17th at Flanders Art Gallery in downtown Raleigh.

This year's show furthered Redress's mission of being a supporter of eco-fashion in the Triangle, showcasing students and established designers who find creative ways to reuse and recycle textiles. Redress also reached its goal as the primary fundraiser for MorLove, selling out days before the show and filling the venue to capacity the day of the event. MorLove is a local nonprofit organization that supports children in poverty with little means to lead an enriched life. Current projects include helping support a home for abandoned babies and young children in Uganda, a school in Madagascar, and local programs in the Raleigh, North Carolina area.

Redress Raleigh 2010 was co-produced by MorLove, Revamp, and USGBC NC Triangle Emerging Professionals. Revamp is a line of reconstructed vintage clothing by Durham designer Jamie Powell focused on creating classic wardrobe staples that incorporate vintage eco-friendly materials and production processes.

The Redress co-producers thank the dedicated volunteers who made this year a smoothly run success and are working on continuing the Redress presence in the community through post-events and preparing for 2011!
