Last Day to Opt-In to Vote on LEED 2012
Tuesday, May 15st
Visit the USGBC Website to Opt-in!
How does a rating system become approved?
Per the LEED Foundations Documents, a rating system is approved when a quorum of USGBC members in good standing reach consensus thro
ugh voting in ballot.
Voting is conducted by USGBC national member companies that opt-in to a consensus body to act on behalf of the membership.
Concensus Body Formation
Opt In Period: The consensus body opt-in period for LEED 2012 is Apr 2-May 15, 2012.Participation: The consensus body is not limited to any number of participants, provided each participating member company meets and maintains the good standing requirements.Good standing: USGBC national members must be in good standing as of 3/1/12 and maintained through 6/30/12 to vote in the LEED 2012 ballot, which will run from June 1-30.Balance: Consensus body must be balanced. If multiple employees from a member company opt in, the vote is calculated proportionally.

NATE 5% of ALL SALES to the Triangle USGBC. Great time to stock up on wine, quality coffee and sustainable paper goods.

Come out to the Whole Foods in North Raleigh from 7am-9pm next Thursday and show your support!
If you haven't been to the North Raleigh Whole Foods yet, it is worth a trip. Just allow time to explore!
The store is a full 12,000 square feet larger than its ITB counterpart on Wade Avenue. The parking lot is big and spacious (and boasts two free electric car chargers and a bike rack).Shopping aisles are nice and wide. Take advantage of the ample patio tables for outdoor spring dining.
The building is LEED certified and Whole Foods is committed to a national effort of sustainability. You'll notice things like beautiful heart of pine wood featured throughout, reclaimed from a farm in Fayetteville.
Skylights in the ceiling and big windows on the front take advantage of natural lighting. Signs are made from materials such as cardboard, brown paper and used pallets.
Refrigerated items are behind doors to isolate cold. A cistern catches rainwater from the roof that is then used to flush the store's toilets.
Return your rinsed yogurt containers and Whole Foods will send them off. The same goes for wine corks. Bring them back to the store, and they'll enjoy subsequent lives as cork boards, pallets and other useful items. (Description is thanks to A Tarheel Tastes blog.)

The EBie Awards™ are a new national juried competition created by Urban Green Council, USGBC New York. The EBies cele
brate performance improvements in Existing Buildings (hence the EBies) and the people who made them possible. As an official EBie Partner, we hope the Triangle will have many EBie entries as well as winners-since we know how many great sustainability projects we have in the area!
The EBies recognizes "unsung heroes" who have made great strides in improving environmental performance but whose accomplishments may otherwise go unheralded.
Who are these unsung heroes? The EBies™ will recognize significant and measurable environmental performance improvements in existing buildings among building owners and operators, engineers, consultants, retro-commissioning agents, lighting designers, landscape architects, and tenant groups. Be sure to review the complete Award list and EBie rules.
The EBie Awards will be given to both commercial and residential projects, with a special award for work in the public sector.
The EBie submission period is open until April 2nd. Entry is free and you can submit projects online at the EBie website.
