In May 2010, USGBC and the national Emerging Green Builders Committee proudly announced the change of Emerging Green Builders (EGB) to USGBC Emerging Professionals. This name change will create a stronger tie to USGBC, create a more cohesive and professional image and widen the appeal of the program to those who don't consider themselves builders.

The NC Triangle Chapter Emerging Professionals consists of young professionals based in the Triangle area of North Carolina who are intent on becoming and recruiting future green building leaders. While USGBC Emerging Professionals targets those 30 years of age and younger, the program is open to any person, most especially those who are new to the green building movement. The NC Triangle Chapter Emerging Professionals either host or are aligned with a variety of social, educational and community oriented events. The Emerging Professionals Group is also a bridge between the local USGBC Student Groups and the NC Triangle USGBC Chapter. Our Emerging Professionals organize the popular Triangle networking event Green Drinks along with a number of other events such as an annual Builders of Hope Volunteer Day, GreenLunch Mentoring Program, LEED study groups, & Redress Raleigh. More info on our events can be found on the events page.

History

The Emerging Green Builders (EGB) started in 2002 with a noticeable need within the design and construction industry to address students and young professionals interested in green building. The U.S. Green Building Council, after suggestions from a number of individuals, agreed to host a forum for students and young professionals at their first annual Greenbuild, in Austin in November 2002. While the USGBC was hoping for 30 attendees at this initial forum, approximately 250 interested individuals showed up. Read more...
