Diversity and Outreach was formed in early 2009 with a mission to integrate the theories and practices of social and economic justice with those of sustainable design, to connect with new audience of individuals, agencies and public officials in underserved communities to increase knowledge and awareness of the benefits of green buildings and promote the USGBC as foremost green building resource.

 

Committee Goals for 2012

Form strategic collaborations with advocates of social justice and quality of life initiatives;
•  Cultivate a partnership with non-profit and for-profit organizations and agencies working together to advance sustainability
•  Promote community designed assistance programs
•  Research and provide information for an education curriculum that promotes diversity and green workforce training
•  Represent USGBC NC Triangle Chapter at strategic conferences, expos and trade shows attracting targeted audiences

A working subcommittee met regularly in March 2010 to develop a strategic work plan entitled DiversiGREEN which will inform a broader Chapter presentation.

Committee members are expected to
•  Participate in at least one responsibility area.
•  Attend at least three events per year.
•  Learn and be able to deliver the standard DiversiGREEN presentation.
•  Deliver the presentation to at least one community group each year.

How We Connect With the Community

•  Provide presentations to target audiences
•  Create and distribute DiversiGREEN flyer including Chapter overview
•  Media outreach
•  Provide and update Blog content on the Triangle USGBC's website and social networks
•  Publish quarterly newsletter features
•  Distribute brochures at strategic conferences and tradeshows
•  Provide shared links for supporters and alliances

Meetings

The committee meets once a month by conference call or in person at Triangle locations. Working subcommittees meet on as needed basis.
