The purpose of this committee is to educate and inform local government and community leaders and to influence them to adopt sustainable design practices in local and state codes and policies/laws. This committee is also responsible for educating the chapter membership about upcoming legislation and policies. The committee is divided into two teams, one focusing on Green Schools and the other focusing on State Advocacy efforts in collaboration with the chapters in Charlotte and the Triad.

Committee Goals for 2012

Promote and endorse green initiatives to the municipalities within our Chapter’s region, the state of N.C., and K-12 schools.
Research upcoming legislation related to green building and educate legislators and our membership on relevant issues.
Seek partnerships with complimentary organizations including NCSU Solar Center, State Energy Office, State Construction Office, City Environmental Councils, Public School Systems, American Institute of Architects, Professional Engineers of North Carolina, ASHRAE, Associated General Contractors, COTE, etc.
Develop an annual green legislator of the year award program and identify and select our first winner to be announced  at our Chapter’s first annual Gala at GreenNC in September, 2010.
