April 2011 Advocacy Update

April 2011

Our efforts right now are focused on legislature actions. We've chosen two topics (three bills) to focus on:

SUPPORT - NC Energy Conservation Code

A house bill was (supposed to have been) introduced today to enact the Conservation Code on January 1, 2012. There was bi-partisan support. We can now focus on supporting this bill, and contacting our representatives with specific information. There had been talk of separating the residential and commercial codes, but it doesn't seem that happened.

OPPOSE - HB 431

Would repeal Senate Bill 3, which created the Renewable Energy Portfolio Standard. This is currently at the Public Utilities Committee, and we will be contacting sponsors and committee members, both as a group and individuals, to voice our opposition to this bill. View or download this Bill.

SUPPORT - HB 495

Solar Jobs Bill, which would increase the Renewable Energy Portfolio Standards
Our next major deadline is May 12, Crossover day, by which time a bill must have been approved by the house or senate to be viable. The chairs of the different chapters are right now pulling together letters and email templates for contacting your representatives on this issue. View this BIll.
