Milo Yiannopoulos Pilot Light

The Pilot Light of Milo Yiannopoulos Appears to Be Flickering Out

The perils of fame are such that those currently at the top aren’t always guaranteed that their place is a particularly stable one. In the case of conservative provocateur Milo Yiannopoulos, his controversial opinions that have often been espoused with the intent of angering others have come back to haunt him.

The 32-year-old Yiannopoulos has made his name by seemingly being a contradiction to all conceivable attempts to pigeonhole him into a particular image. He’s taken a far-right approach on many topics, yet is openly gay, a combination that hasn’t always been welcome in the realm he’s developed his approach.

Just weeks ago, Yiannopoulos became a martyr for the Right and free speech advocates when he was prevented from speaking at the University of California due to angry riots from protesters. He reveled in the attention and continued his baiting of enemies, who he considered to be hypocrites for preventing him from speaking.

In the midst of all this, Yiannopoulos was invited to the annual CPAC conference, which champions Conservative causes and candidates. However, almost as soon after the invitation was offered, it was taken away. The reason was because of previous statements he had made that appeared to endorse pedophilia.

Despite claiming that his words were misinterpreted, Yiannopoulos quickly saw other communication avenues shut down. His book, Dangerous, was to be published by Simon & Schuster, but they quickly cancelled the impending publication. In addition, he resigned his role as senior editor at Breitbart News, which has been just as controversial.

Social media had previously taken steps to deal with Yiannopoulos’ inflammatory messages. Last summer, he was banned from Twitter after his abusive comments to actress Leslie Jones were deemed racist. In the current media, the firebrand appears to be in the process of self-immolation.
